Passover Meal – March 2016

The parish centre was transformed for the passover meal tonight, March 22nd 2016. A great night celebrating the Passover with the parishioners and friends of St Augustine’s Parish in Darlington.

Wedding Reception Darlington

A Recent Wedding

Some lovely feedback from a recent wedding reception held at the centre.

“We had a wonderful day. Can you pass on my thanks to all the staff who were fabulous, everyone commented on how great the venue was, a real hidden gem. I have had a couple of requests from people wanting your number and I have passed this on. I can honestly say the organisation staff and venue were excellent and just what we needed.”

Thank you for all your hard work the bar staff were excellent.

Refugee Aid Night

What a weekend, a total of £5,902 raised over both nights of the Refugee Aid Night. They were absolutely brilliant and a massive thank you to everyone who made it possible. Read more

Christmas Wreath Event

On the 28th of November we had a lovely afternoon in the hall with our friend Mickey from the Chatsworth Estate.  He taught a load of us how to make Christmas Wreaths and the results were spectacular !

There was mulled wine, cake and lots and lots of chat and laughter, it was a great way to start the festive season and we’re definitely thinking of doing it again next year.

Film Night – It’s A Wonderful Life

On the 23rd of December (which we think is perfect timing) at 8pm in our newly refurbished Parish Centre hall we are showing the best Christmas film ever made; It’s A Wonderful Life.

If you’ve never seen it before, you’re in for a treat.  If you have seen it before come along and see how it how it should be seen, in a big room, surrounded by family and friends where you can weep silently with happiness and nobody can see you in the dark.

And of course there will be popcorn and choc-ices. The bar will definitely be open if you fancy something a little stronger and as always you can grab a tea or coffee.  We might also provide hankies… perfect !

Cafod Quiz

Each year the Cafod Group run a quiz at Christmas, it’s primarily a fund raiser of course but it’s great family fun.  In fact the wider range of ages you have in your team, the better your chances of success.

It’s on the 19th Dec and starts around 8pm, but earlier in the evening we’re having our Outdoor Nativity, so come to both, it’s a smashing way to start the festivities.

There will be raffles and games as well as quiz questions, and there will be our famous ‘video round’, so come along and remind yourself of Del&Rodney and Morcambe & Wise doing Grieg’s Piano Concerto with “Mr Preview”…

Nativity 2015

Last year, for the first time, we used our lovely garden to have an outdoor nativity and it it was so well received we’re doing it again this year.  All welcome.

As well as a beautiful, colourful set and some first class production (check out the pictures !) we have a choir to lead you in your favourite carols. There will be mulled wine for those who fancy it, or tea coffee and juice if that’s not your style. There will be live goats and even a donkey.

It’s on Saturday the 19th and we start at 6pm.  Entrance is FREE but we are collecting food bank donations of tinned and dried goods to be distributed in Darlo, so bring along some beans, rice or pasta if you can spare it.

It is a lovely way to start Christmas week, but we can’t guarantee the weather so wrap up warm (and you might want to bring a torch to read the hymn sheets)

St Augustine’s vs Sunderland FC Football Match

In August 2015, to mark the 150th anniversary of The Northern League being won by St Augustines Football Club (yes, us, we were as astonished as you !)  we recreated a match that really took place, St Augustine’s played Sunderland FC the very first time the Wearsiders wore their iconic red and white stripes.  Sunderland won that match 1-0, but if you want to find out the score in the ‘replay’ you’ll have to visit us in the Parish Centre.  There’s a full report on the wall of the corridor underneath a replica shirt.
